Keeping Your Stateroom Shipshape: The Importance of Housekeeping Service on Your Next Cruise

Cruising and enjoying a fantastic stateroom with excellent housekeeping service makes for an incredible vacation. We were fortunate to have both on our Disney 7-Night Very Merry Eastern Caribbean cruise. We stayed in a concierge one-bedroom suite with a verandah on deck 12, and I am sharing our housekeeping experience. You can take a 360 tour of our stateroom. You can also read an overall review of the cruise.

Cruise Housekeeping Services Overall

The service was excellent every day. The room was clean; the trash was emptied, dirty plates were removed, and the bed was made daily. However, the housekeeping service went beyond general cleaning. We felt taken care of and pampered. Housekeeping was one of the services (besides concierge) that exemplified how outstanding services are possible while cruising. Each night, we had turndown service. Our housekeeper kept our stateroom shipshape and added to our comfort.

Attention to Detail

Our housekeeper (Raj) paid attention to details! On the first day, he saw us in the hallway and asked if leaving chocolates on our bed was acceptable because our account had flagged me for food restrictions (wheat, dairy, and strawberries). We also requested extra pillows then, and they were waiting for us at the turndown service that night. We often made requests when we saw him in the hallway, and he accommodated us in every way. We even asked him for more soda for the wet bar because we did not know this request was made through the concierge, and he made the request for us. Raj did not miss details; he wrapped the cords of our electronic devices and left a card in the light slot so it would be activated without us having to use our room card. He also made up the room using our onboard gift set (a blanket, a large posable Goofy figurine, a Mickey-shaped pillow, and decorative banners) by placing the blanket neatly on the bed when we left it on the sofa.

Towel Animals

We were presented with towel animals every night for turndown service.

Chocolates

Raj left chocolates by the towel animals each night. He left chocolate coins on the bed on Pirate Night.

Personality

Raj was not only friendly and detail-oriented, but he also had a fun personality. I enjoyed visiting with him in the hallway. He added to our joy by placing and posing Goofy around the room during our stay. We found Goofy on the closet doorknob, riding on top of an elephant towel animal, and other entertaining places in the room.

Before you book a cruise, consider the level of housekeeping service that will be provided. The service we were given added some luxury to our cruise and genuine enjoyment.
